Canoeing

“Wherever there is a channel for water, there is a road for the canoe.” – Henry David Thoreau

Last year Kris and I decided to make a big purchase. We bought two canoes. It might not sound like a big purchase but a lot of thought went into the decision. For one, we currently live in a townhouse with a tiny backyard and no garage. The house was perfect when we were a lot younger, but it seems too small now. Deciding how to store them was the biggest limiting factor for a long time. After multiple trips to the Adirondacks and multiple times going through the hassle of renting them, we decided we would save money in the long run if we just bought them. It has been a wonderful decision, one we wish we would have made sooner. It only took two weekends to build the “canoe house” in the backyard. Now when we camp we look for waterfront sites so we can get the canoes easily in the water. Sometimes we go out specifically to fish. Other times it’s just to enjoy the scenery.
